storm slammed into the islands... so the extent of damage and devastation is not yet known. we are getting a better look at the damage left behind in the caribbean. this is from st. marteen just unbelieveable damage. trees down - debris everywhere. we know 13 people are dead as a result of the irma in the carribean. and now with its sights set on florida mass evacuations are underway. we'll check in with our reporter in boca raton in a minute but first let's get a check of our local traffic with julie wright. right now -- long right now -- long

many florida evacuees are taking refuge where ever the can. some-- arriving in the dmv last night. we spoke with evacuees who arrived at reagan national airport last night. they say the journey was a lot longer than normal, but they they knew they have to get out. at least 25 flights are expected to at least 25 flights are expected to arrive from florida today. many airlines added additional flights today, becuase miami international airport will shut down as the storm gets close. this morning, we're getting a first glimpse - at some of irma's tiniest evacuees. "last chance animal shelter" in waldorf -- received 45 carriers worth of cats and kittens... from miami-dade animal control. more are expected

underway at this hour, after a police-involved shooting at miami international airport. police say a man with a knife was trying to get to the roof of terminal "j" last night. witnesses say he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, and was acting erratically. that's when an officer shot him. the suspect was rushed to a trauma center. there's still no word on his condition. happening today.. and for one day only.. krispy kreme will be selling pumpkin spice glazed doughnuts! they're extremely popular, and the chain is getting ready for big crowds. pumpkin spiced foods are a growing trend. nielsen figures show, from 20-11 to

administration looks to reform the way colleges handle sexual harassment cases. harassment cases. education secretary betsy devos -- was met with protesters thursday. she announced that colleges need to change how they handle sexual assaults... to protect the suspect -- as well as the accuser. currently, schools must investigate sexual assault claims -- even if there's a separate criminal investigation. devos proposed moving "title nine" cases off campus... to regional opt-out centers where attorneys and forensic experts would decide the outcomes. no stor

but something else was scaring people in in lititz, pennsylvania. recently red balloons started to appear near sewer grates all over town. the ballons reminded police of new horror movie, "it"-- where a killer clown lures children to storm drains . and that scared almost every one in real life. it turns out-- there is no demonic killer clown in town. five teenage girls weere behind it all. they have apologized for scaring the police department.
